Florestan Festival at Peasmarsh
posted by Imogen Smart in Blog, Florestan Festival on 20th March 2010
With eight concerts in four days, the festival includes three of Schumann’s piano trios, plus ‘Davidsbűndler’ for solo piano, and ‘Florestan and Eusebius’, an exploration of Schumann’s musical personalities by Robert Philip. The popular Friday night chamber concerto concert in Rye has Boccherini’s String Quintet in F Major, Mozart’s Piano Concerto in C major, and a string quintet arrangement of the famous and fiendish ‘Kreutzer’ Violin Sonata by Beethoven. A second outing is given to Huw Watkins’ new piano trio on the opening night, and Saturday’s early evening concert which features Schubert’s magnificent Piano Trio in B flat major is followed by Schoenberg’s early and iconic string sextet, ‘Verklärte Nacht’. Further inspiration is given with trios by Haydn and Schubert, including the latter’s magnificent Piano Trio in B flat major, and one of Beethoven’s greatest creations, the ‘Archduke’ Trio.
